7 Smart Ways to Make the Most Out of Christmas for Your Business.

I know it’s only September, and it feels far too early to be talking about Christmas. However, if you want to make the most of it, now is the time to start planning, especially if you are looking to strengthen exsiting relationships and build new ones.

For B2B professional services businesses, a Christmas campaign does not need to mean discounts or novelty emails. It can be an opportunity to remind people how you can help and start useful conversations before the end of the year.

Here are seven practical ideas to consider.

1. Keep your customers informed

Christmas may affect your opening hours, response times or even deadlines, so make sure your clients know what to expect.

Sharing this early makes it easier for your clients to plan and reduces the number of questions your team receives as you ramp up or down for Christmas.

  • When your business will close and reopen
  • Your final working day before Christmas
  • Changes to response times
  • Who clients can contact if urgent
  • When normal service will resume in January
  • Your website
  • Your email signature
  • Pin it to your social media
  • Your Google Business Profile
  • A client email

Make the information easy to find by thinking about where your clients normally go to contact you or look for useful information.

This may seem like an obvious one, but it’s important to make time for it. It’s also a good opportunity to share some of your thoughts about your industry.

  • A genuine message of appreciation
  • A brief reflection on the year
  • A milestone your business or clients have reached
  • A positive change you have seen within your sector
  • Your hopes for the year ahead

It doesn’t need to be a sales pitch. The purpose is to strengthen your client relationships and make them feel valued beyond the work and invoices you exchange.

Clients tend to choose people they trust and are comfortable working with.

Christmas gives you an opportunity to show more of the personality behind your business. Depending on your clients and the type of relationship you have, you could:

  • Send a handwritten card
  • Choose a small, thoughtful gift
  • Arrange a Christmas lunch or coffee
  • Make a charitable donation on behalf of your clients
  • Support a cause connected to your business or community
  • Record a short personal video message
  • Share an end-of-year reflection from your team

It’s not about how much you spend. The value comes from showing you have considered the relationship with them.

If you send gifts, think about whether the recipient’s organisation has rules around accepting them. This can be particularly important for regulated businesses, charities and larger professional services firms. A card, donation or personal message may be more appropriate.

You could also involve your team by asking everyone to contribute a short message or share one thing they have appreciated about working with clients that year.

Clients may not know what else you offer, even if your services are clearly listed on your website. It’s a great opportunity to introduce something else relevant.

  • A consultant could offer a strategy or performance review
  • An accountant could introduce budgeting or forecasting support
  • A recruitment agency could offer hiring planning
  • A technology provider could introduce training or a systems review
  • A financial services organisation could promote an annual review

Instead of sending a long list of services, choose one that connects to something they are likely to be thinking about towards the end of the year.

  • The problem the service helps address
  • Why it’s relevant now
  • Who it would be most useful for
  • What the client would receive
  • What the sensible next step would be

This will help make the message feel helpful and timely rather than a random sales pitch.

The final few months of the year are when many businesses begin setting priorities, reviewing budgets and deciding what needs to change in the new year.

Think about the questions your clients are likely to ask as they prepare for 2027. You could turn your answers into:

  • A practical checklist
  • A planning template
  • A short interactive guide
  • A free tool
  • An industry update
  • A webinar
  • A Q&A session
  • A short email series
  • What decisions will our clients need to make?
  • What are they likely to be unsure about?
  • What information would save them time?
  • What could cause problems if they overlook it?
  • What can we explain more clearly than anyone else?

The aim is to help clients make a decision or take a useful first step.

Most businesses have previous clients, prospects and contacts they have not spoken to in a while.

Some may no longer need your help, but others may have become distracted, delayed their plans or lost touch.

Christmas provides a natural reason to reconnect without pretending the previous conversation never happened.

Start with five or ten people you already know and would like to reconnect with.

Send a short, personal message that refers to your previous conversation and ask how things are progressing. For example:

You could also include a useful guide or checklist, or a piece of advice connected to what you previously discussed.

The aim is to restart the conversation.

December becomes busy quickly, which means conversations and new projects can easily be pushed into January. Instead of waiting until the new year to restart them, make it easier for people to plan ahead.

  • An annual review
  • A January planning session
  • A strategy workshop
  • A performance review
  • A budget discussion
  • A priority check-in

Be clear about what the conversation will cover and what the client will receive afterwards, such as a short list of recommended actions.

The aim is to begin January with relevant conversations already in the diary.

You don’t need to do all seven, and it doesn’t need to be overcomplicated. Before you start, ask:

  • Who are we trying to reach?
  • What are they likely to be thinking about?
  • What would be useful to them?
  • What would we like them to do next?
  • Do we have enough time to deliver it well?
